THE RUES PRINCIPALES FOUNDATION : WEAVING TIES
So that all municipalities may benefit from the expertise developed and the lessons learned with respect to the factors and conditions that help ensure a successful social-economic revitalization process, the Foundation proposes events and offers discussion and linkage-oriented events and activities designed especially for the members of its Network.
The Network meetings, held every six months in one of the Rues principales Network member municipalities, provide project coordinators and different stakeholders in the municipalities with an opportunity to discuss concerns and gain from one another's experiences. Such discussions help strengthen the ties and synergy within the Network, with all partners coming out ahead as a consequence.
The municipalities that call on the Rues principales Foundation's expertise are entitled to take part in this vast discussion network that offers:
- Training geared to its members' requirements
- Work sessions
- An intranet
- Professional guidance
- Technical support
- A Newsletter
- Effective promotional tools that highlight the municipalities (Repertory of Success Stories, tip sheets (fiches-conseils), website)
- An annual conference with the presentation of six achievement awards and the prestigious SHQ Award of Excellence
- A network of 4-Aces certified municipalities
The Foundation holds many activities, and its overall reputation in the local and regional development sector is now well established. Testimony to this: the ever-increasing number of participants at its annual conference and in its training activities as well as the growing number of projects undertaken with the communities.
However, the Foundation constantly focuses its efforts on strengthening and expanding its network. One of its short-term objectives is to make its products and services more readily accessible. Ties with Europe have been established, making it possible to lay the groundwork in the eventuality that the Foundation exports its services. Its ongoing projects are the assurance of a promising future for the organization.
Together with the Heritage Canada Foundation, the Rues principales Foundation is studying the possibility of expanding the Rues principales strategy nation-wide.
Since 1985, more than 250 towns and villages have participated in the establishment of a revitalization process coordinated by the team of the Rues principales Foundation.
